HID is expanding its pool of experts for upcoming programming in Latin America and Caribbean region and, seeking candidates experienced in addressing micronutrient deficiencies through food fortification and biofortification programs of staples and condiments.

Requirements

Working closely with Executive Director and Sr. Manager, Strategy and Operations the consultant(s) would be expected to support / carry out the following:

  • Support with technical and operational activities in food fortification and biofortification to address micronutrient deficiencies in nutritionally vulnerable groups.
  • Develop and deliver training content to assist stakeholders of local food systems to ensure diversified, stable, and nutritious diet for nutritionally vulnerable groups.
  • Support with monitoring and evaluation of effectiveness of fortification and biofortification programs.
  • Support with management of social protection programs, food security and nutrition information analysis.

  • Conscientiousness and efficiency in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and meeting results.
  • Strong planning and analytical skills.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish.
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to establish harmonious working relations in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to work proactively and independently in a demanding work environment meeting tight deadlines.

Qualifications

The consultant(s) will have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in one of the following fields: nutrition, food science, agriculture, public health, epidemiology, or other related discipline.
  • Proven experience in both food fortification and biofortification.
  • Work experience in low-middle-income countries.
  • In-depth knowledge of staple crops, condiments, and the nutritional aspects of food fortification.
  • Excellent project management and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including farmers, government, industry, academia, development agencies, and NGOs.
  • Working experience with United Nations Agencies will be an asset.

Language Skills

Fluency in both English and Spanish is essential.

Location and Travel

This will be a remote consultancy. Travel might be expected in Latin America and Caribbean region especially Cuba within the consultancy period. Travel and duration will be discussed in accordance with HID travel rules.
